The gatherings are born to take the work of Lourdes Tomás out of the studio and turn it into a living experience. They are not exhibitions in the classical sense. It is not only about looking at paintings hung on a wall. Each gathering is a space created to pause, contemplate, listen and open a conversation about the great questions that run through human existence.
Through her work, Lourdes invites us to look at what we normally avoid: life, death, grief, birth, love, illness, fear, beauty, transcendence and meaning.
Each gathering revolves around a central theme and brings together three languages: the visual language of painting, the spoken word in the form of a talk, and the experience of the place that holds the work. That is why gatherings take place in spaces with soul: an estate, a garden, a foundation, a home, a company — a place where nature, light and silence become part of the message.
The work is not presented as a decorative object, but as a door. A door to remember that the human being is not only body, biography or thought. There is also within us a deep, invisible and transcendent dimension that needs to be recognised, cared for and expressed.
In each gathering, several things happen at once.
First, an aesthetic and sensory experience. People come into contact with the works, the surroundings, the light, the silence. The painting is not explained straight away: it is contemplated, allowed to act, permitted to move something within.
Then, Lourdes shares the story that gave rise to the work and the human question that runs through it. She speaks not only as an artist. She also speaks from her experience as a doctor, as a woman, as a daughter, as someone who has accompanied processes of life, illness, loss and transformation.
